Central Goldfields Shire Council is entering a critical phase of organisational maturity, with a strong focus on governance excellence, risk management, and accountability. This role offers the opportunity to step into a senior leadership position that will directly influence Council’s integrity, compliance, and long-term sustainability.
Reporting to the General Manager Corporate Services, the Manager Governance and Risk will lead the governance and risk functions, driving continuous improvement across compliance frameworks, audit, and organisational risk practices. The role will also provide expert advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Councillors on complex governance, legislative, and integrity matters, ensuring best practice and transparency across the organisation.

The Manager Governance and Risk is central to strengthening Council’s governance framework and risk maturity. As a key member of the leadership team, the role works collaboratively across all departments, with Councillors, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Key priorities include leading the governance and compliance framework, overseeing internal audit processes, managing Council and committee meeting governance, and delivering high-quality strategic advice to support decision-making. The role also drives the development and implementation of risk management frameworks, including strategic and operational risk registers, business continuity planning, and insurance management.
In addition, the position holds key statutory responsibilities, including Freedom of Information, Privacy, and Public Interest Disclosure functions, and plays a critical role in maintaining Council’s reputation, transparency, and legislative compliance.
Central Goldfields Shire Council is seeking an experienced governance and risk leader who thrives in complex, regulated environments. Candidates are likely to bring experience from local government, public sector, or similarly regulated industries.
The successful candidate will demonstrate deep expertise across governance, compliance, risk management, and legislative frameworks. Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-quality governance and risk programs is essential.
You will bring highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills, with the ability to operate effectively at executive and Council level. Tertiary qualifications in
governance, risk, or a related discipline are preferred, supported by extensive practical experience.
